Emergency tariff benefits all privately insured persons

Emergency tariff benefits all privately insured persons

The situation for defaulting private patients has improved significantly since the introduction of the private health insurance emergency tariff. Since the emergency tariff costs little, those affected have a real chance for the first time to reduce their premium debts with the insurer. According to the Signal Iduna, this benefits even all PKV insured persons.

The law on the elimination of social overburdening of premium debts in health insurance came into force on 1 August 2013. Since then, the situation for defaulting health insurance has improved significantly. In both statutory and private health insurance, those affected now benefit from being deprived of part of their debt. While health insurance patients now have the opportunity to reduce their debts to the health insurance companies by means of the retroactive reduction in the late payment premium, private insured persons continue to benefit from the emergency tariff. But what do private health insurers think about the new tariff? finanzen.de has ticked at the Signal Iduna.

Emergency tariff "good solution for all insured persons"

"The new emergency tariff is a good solution for all insured persons," says Claus Rehse, press officer at Signal Iduna. Affected persons have the opportunity through the small contribution to pay off "accumulated contribution debts". With the emergency tariff it comes to fewer contribution failures, "which lowers the burden for all insured ones", so Rehse. The emergency tariff thus not only makes it easier for defaulting contributors, but also for the entire insurance collective.

Emergency tariff costs just under 80 euros per month at Signal IDUNA

Signal Iduna informed its affected insureds by the end of October about switching to the emergency tariff. Those who can no longer pay their contributions to private health insurance will be converted into the emergency tariff by means of a legally prescribed dunning procedure. For Signal IDUNA, the monthly contribution for employees and the self-employed amounts to € 79.14. By comparison, depending on the age and state of health, the premium for the statutory base rate could amount to more than 600 euros per month. In these, private patients have so far been transferred after 12 months of arrears. With such high premiums, it was almost impossible for defaulting contributors to reduce their debt in the past.

Private patients are relieved

The insurer can not say just how many private insureds actually have debts owed to Signal Iduna and how their contribution burden is reduced by the new law. There are around 145,000 nonpayers in private health insurance. "You will be charged retroactively for the period in which the emergency benefits were insured, the lower contributions of the emergency rate. This reduces the actually accrued contribution debts, "explains Claus Rehse.

Benefits of the emergency rate

Currently insured persons are reporting to the provider to find out about the benefits of the new tariff. The benefits of the emergency tariff are limited to medical treatments for acute illnesses and pain. Children and adolescents are also provided with check-ups and vaccinations. In addition, pregnant women and mothers have a right to all necessary services.

About the Signal Iduna: Contribution Guarantee for 2014

Signal Krankenversicherung, for example, was recently awarded one of the top three private health insurers by the German Financial Services Institute. The testers attached particular importance to the contribution development. According to Rehse, Signal Iduna is committed to providing "insured persons with high-quality protection at affordable prices." This philosophy is also reflected in the contribution guarantee the insurer has extended to its customers with private health insurance for 2014.
